The Hyundai i30 is a great family car. A few years ago if someone had suggested I buy a Hyundai I would have turned my nose up at them but not anymore. The Korean manufacturer has a growing reputation and the quality of its cars is reflected in the 5 year warranty it gives away with each one. After all, if you have a poorly built, unreliable car then you certainly wouldn't be confident about offering a 5 year warranty now would you!
The i30 really looks the part with its sleek lines and the newest models have been redesigned again to give an even sleeker look all round. The quality of finish is excellent and with the metallic finishes, you will find yourself wanting to keep it as clean as possible (or maybe that's just me).
The handling of the i30 is excellent, with the suspension soaking up all that our pot holed roads can throw at it. The ride is superb and transports you and your passengers to your destination in comfort, although faster drivers may find it a touch softly set up if you want to get a move on. Having said that if that's the way you drive then it is highly unlikely that this would be the car you would go for in the first place!
There is ample room for both front and rear passengers and I have had people over 6 feet tall in the car who are amazed at the head and leg room they have and the car seats 5 people in reasonable comfort. Talking of room the boot is ample too and the i30 passed my golf club test with aplomb, taking a couple of sets of clubs plus caddy cars and associated bits and pieces.
If you like your gadgets, then this car has plenty for you and the addition of Bluetooth connectivity as well as a usb slot is a nice touch for those of us who like our music and don't want to carry stacks of cd's in the car.
Safety wise, the car has 6 airbags for your peace of mind and if you combine this with the anti-lock braking system and the electronic stability programme you have one extremely safe car, with it being awarded the highest 5 star rating from Euro Ncap.
The 1.6 diesel engine is extremely economical and its emissions are so low that believe it or not you will pay a grand total of £0.00 for your road tax. Not only that, the engine pulls cleanly throughout the rev range and allows for effortless overtaking if the mood takes you.
All in all the i30 is a great all rounder with a cracking 5 year warranty to back it up.
Summary: Good all rounder with plenty of gadgets
