Advantages: Practical, tough, lots of seats, ultimate tow vehicle

Disadvantages: Slow (can be fixed), cramped, draughty, cold

Landrover Defenders - its a love and hate thing.

I have a 54 plate Defender 110 XS Stationwagon - that has 9 seats and unusally in a Landrover:
Leather Seats
Heated front seats
Heated Windscreen
Aircon

I use it to transport our workforce around and usually with a trailer on the back - and for that use it's ideal. I've also used it for an off-road minibus and get lots of requests for transport. It's off road ability is A1 - with a diffloack and traction control its the best off-roader i've driven. It also has ABS which we find essential when towing lots.

I have changed the woeful standard tyres with BFGoodrich all terrains, and added a winch. I've also had the engine management played with to give it more oomph and by 'eck it's brill (why don't they comeout of the factory like that!)

The bad bits - it's fairly uncomfortable as it's quite narrow, the factory finish is pretty appauling (mine has been in for new door seals as it leaked and numerous oil seals) - but Landrover owners are used to this. However - Landrover assist and dealers are excellent.

Summary: Uncompromising workhorse - don't buy unless you can live with shortcomings
