Advantages: NIce v8 engine, great leather interior, looks cool, drives well and comes with many extras
Disadvantages: v6 engine is poor
The Land Rover Discovery has been around for 2 years now, and is a phenomally popular car, many people think of it as the best 4x4 car on the market. I know many people have critisised it for its enviromental issues, but I will not express any issuses in this category throughout the review.
As it's a 4x4 I think I better start with the off road area. The car handles very well in off road situations and holds its own. The suspension on the car manages to make for a better experience in comfort while off road.
Inside the car there are many different types of material available for the seats and other interial parts. If you are considering buying one of these then I suggest you go for the cream leather, which is very lush.
The car drives very well. The turning is smooth and subtle, while the suspension I mentioned earlier provides a very comfortable ride and does not manage to find many potholes and bumps in the roads. The car tops out at 130 miles an hour for its top speed, which is brilliant for a car that weighs somewhere inbetween 2-3 tonnes. I would suggest a v8 engine, which can chugg out some real power, the v6 deisel just does not cut it and apparantly needs servicing too much.
There are many nice little extras that can be bought with the discovery. Among these are an inbuilt sat nav, tvs and ps2s, a bose surround sound system (which by the way is brilliant) and heated seats. There are many other extras and the discovery really can come with almost anything.
The car can come with either 7 seats or 5 seats. Even if your family does not contain more than 5 people, I still suggest that you get the 7 seater version as the price is not much more and if you ever need the seats you have them. Also the seats apparently keep the cars prestige and value buy a noticable gap compared to the 5 seater.
All in all I agree with all those who say this is one of the best 4x4s on the market. The car looks great, drives brilliantly, comes with many extras and the interior material is really nice. If you have the money and are not bothered about the enviromental side and need a family car, then get this.
Summary: One of the best 4x4s out there

- 02/05/08 I notice you don't mention the emmissions or the fuel consumption though, Susan |
