Advantages: Spacious, Comfortable, Tows well

Disadvantages: Things fall out of boot, Repairs can be expensive

We have a touring caravan and two children and so when we changed our car last time we needed somethng that had the pulling power combined with the room to accomodate all the gubbins that comes with a couple of sprogs. Another consideration for us was economy becuse we do use the car quite a lot around and about town,days out, hols etc. The Disco Tdi has it all.
With about 32 to the gallon most of the time solo and around 25 towing our Disco comes close to our previous ordinary family saloon. It has plenty of room both front and back so long journeys are a dream because leg room is never compromised. Perhaps the only downfall is the boot which, although very spacious does have the problem of a door as opposed to a lid and so things falling out as you open the door is a regular occurance - careful packing of the boot is a skill quickly acquired!
When we began to look at different vehicles many people said to us that the Disco's break down frequently ( as much as once every thousand miles was quoted on more than one occasion)which, coupled with reports of faulty gear boxes made us sceptical. However, 16 months down the line, our 1994 model has now covered 142,000 miles (20,000 of them by us) and is still (touch wood) going strong. It has never let us down even in extreme weather conditions. It tows like a dream, makes you feel safe and is a pleasure to drive. I never want a saloon car again.
