Advantages: Smart car.
Disadvantages: Expensive servicing and maintenance.
I have a diesel Freelander (over two years old). I am a high mileage user, and have clocked up nearly 60,000 miles already. The Freelander is great. I love driving it, its comfy, safe, reliable (just about). I just want to point out that the maintenace costs came as a big surprise to me. Like all new cars, for virtually all the work, you must go to Landrover Dealers, fair enough, we all know this. At the time I bought mine, there were no good deals. I paid for finance etc. Now you can get free insurance, some free servicing, some interest free finance, making them a lot more affordable. Don't forget the extras, especially if you plan to use it a lot. Here are some costs for you: * A typical no-frills service costs approx £150. Consider buying and providing the oil for the oil change, as the garage will charge you £8 per litre before VAT, this adds up to £40 for standard oil -- rip off! * Two replacement front brake pads -- £80 fitted. * The 48,000 mile service cost £440, you might want to save up for that one. * I've spent approx £350 on replacing worn tyres -- shopped around for the tyres managed to get them £80-ish each not Landrover garage, they'll charge 130 per tyre. * Due to my age, 23, my insurance is £1100. For the size and class of car, I cannot complain about the fuel economy. The 2.0L XEDi manages around 370 miles on 50litres of diesel, currently costs £43. I do around 400 miles a week, and spend £250 a month on fuel.
