Express Review on Land Rover Freelander in general
by John Cowley - written on 08.01.08
Rating:

This car looks great, with great driving position and comfort.

The down side is that the car is very, VERY VERY unreliable.

If it goes wrong, it generally costs a lot of money to repair.

Only buy one with a cast iron guarantee.

These are the things that went wrong with mine in the 3 years that I have owned it.

No other car I have owned has had these type of problems.

Blown head gasket, Its blown it twice, costing just under £2800 to repair. Transfer box and CV joint replaced, costing just under £2000 to repair.

Engine mounts broke costing £200.

Save yourself a lot of money in repairs, buy a Toyota/Nissan.

The Freelander will let you down and will cost lots of your hard earned cash to repair. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT BUY ONE!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED THIS CAR WILL LET YOU DOWN BIGTIME!!!!!!!!!!

I love my freelander. It is almost seven years old, only has 51000 miles on the clock and has had one previous owner. It is a fully serviced and well maintained vehicle and I wouldn't want any other. It is a five door, 2.0 deisel td4 so it is quite economical and nippy for a 4x4. I use it as an off road vehicle, it has a towbar and I ...

Freelander Truck Do not whatever you do own one of these that is outside of the warranty. I loved mine for 3 years, then the warranty ran out. In the space of the last 6 months it has cost me £3000 in repair bills and non of the defects have been fair wear and tear. It has been fully maintaind buy Landrover and has had raditor, ...

We've just had a baby who is a real lump, so we decided to buy a mini SUV to make lifting our little bruiser in and out much easier. Now I've always been a bit of a petrol head so the idea of a diesel 4x4 with an auto gearbox was much akin to beating my testicles wafer thin with a club hammer. I was mistaken in the ...

The Freelander is not a Honda, it is not a Mitsubishi or a Hyundai or a Mercedes. It is an excellent off roader, a genuine town and country estate, and not a shopping trolley or glorified handbag. Unlike it's MPV cousins, the Freelander has HDC (Hill Descent Control) which enables you to eliminate overrun when going down steep slopes. ...

I purchased my Freelander new in April 2001. It is the 1.8 hardback version in Monte Carlo Blue. As far as 4x4's go, I think the Freelander is, if not the most attractive, certainly one of them. It was the looks that made my decision to buy this model, but as they say "Looks can deceive"!!!! My main gripe about the car is the ...

Firstly i would like to explain my situation, i currently work for a Lanrover dealship in the Midlands, i work in the after sales side, therefore i am constantly in and out of Freelanders of all ages, models and engine options. The Freelander concept is basically a good one, the cars are designed as a road car which has excellent four wheel drive ...

With its high profile adverts set as playful animals on the African Plains, the Freelander has enjoyed a very modern and fun filled birth into the lives of many Land Rove owners. True, it is a very nice looking, if somewhat sporty car, that looks like its built to go "offroad" in some ferocious conditions. Yet it is its urban ...

Now that I have a family & also need to carry around computer boxes, I wanted something larger that could also protect the 9pts on my licence! I had 3 requirements: 1. Protection from car park damage 2. Good for loading boxes 3. Reasonable mpg The TD4 matched all these requirements. Land Rover dealers seem to ...

I have a diesel Freelander (over two years old). I am a high mileage user, and have clocked up nearly 60,000 miles already. The Freelander is great. I love driving it, its comfy, safe, reliable (just about). I just want to point out that the maintenace costs came as a big surprise to me. Like all new cars, for virtually all the ...

I love this car. My parents currently own a 1.8 litre petrol version. You now are thinking 1.8 litre is that all? It doesnt need to be anymore. The front of the car lifts when you accelerate it is great!!!!!!!!!! However if you are seriously looking at buying this car I reccomend the 2.2 litre version to give it the extra grrr. And a ...

The Land rover freelander is the cheaper way to be able to afford a land rover. It is a suitable family car with the option of being able to travel off road. The freelander has nothing really special it is just like a normal family car which can be used for off roading. With the freelander you know you are not buying cheap forigen ...

I'll admit it - I was drawn to the Freelander for what it stood for. The perfect vehicle for a young family - throw the kids, the dog and all the rest that goes with it in and have the ability to go anywhere at anytime. Well like 99.99% of 4x4 drivers the amount of time I've spent going anywhere has been pretty limited and ...

We've just got one of these... and it's beautiful. It's a 4x4 and feels like one, but shorter in length than the vauxhall vectra (previous wheels). It's a diesel turbo, and when the turbo kicks in, the car runs at 90mph whilst feeling like 50mph... yet fuel economy is a staggering 35.6mpg!!! When you consider that the Range Rover ...
