      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Having test driven a diesel Freelander the TD4 immediately seemed more refined, quieter and much more eager. Transmission noise was considerably less which may have been the fault of the older model but generally the TD4 was quieter and smoother running. I have not yet tested fuel consumption but runs on a motorway were relaxed and controlled with good straight line stability and power available when needed. Other roads revealed a little too much roll into bends but steering was direct and positive along twisty lanes. Transmission noise can be heard when cornering which I assume is the four wheel drive. There is adequate storage space with a few useful containers, especially the lockable compartment in the boot and two sets of golf clubs and a trolley are easily contained in the boot.
