The Landrover Freelander; forget recent press about reliability and forget the softroader tag. Ford have sorted this Landrover once and for all.
The freelander suffers in only one respect - it has a naff name.
This car drives superbly. It rides smooth and true and takes corners in a way that off roaders have no right to. Its snappy V6 engine has plenty of torque and horsepower and many a hot hatch owner is going to be more than a little surprised in the perrenial red light drag race, 0 - 60 in 9seconds is not right for an off roader.
What about it's off road ability. With electronic traction control, the limitations that road going independant wishbone suspension should impart are no more. This little lovely can go most places it's bigger brother the Defender can go and it does so in style. This car has more off road ability than the Range Rover classic so it certainly belongs in the Landrover stable.
Fuel consumption is about 30 mpg and top speed is illegal everywhere.
So what about its reliability. Recent press put Landrover near the bottom of the league, but I have had mine for 6 months and have had no problem at all. I have friendas with the Discovery who are moaning their way through leaks and squeaks but my Freelander seems bulletproof.
I am a new convert to it's quirky looks and certainly it is the most handsome in it's class. A winner with me.
Thumbs up all round Landrover. Just make sure all your models become as good as this.

6 months on and there have been no problems. Landrover have done the decent thing and issued a recall because the hand brake has let go on a few cars. this is responsible, swift and courteous. I still cannot fault this car.
