      Advantages

      Disadvantages

You know you’re getting old when you start thinking cars look better without aftermarket wheels and spoilers. But did a car ever look as right at the Lexus GS300 Sport? The visual changes over the standard car are not massive, yet they make a massive difference. The Lexus Sport is not, as you might think, the work of some aftermarket tuning company, but can instead be bought from any of the 70 UK Lexus dealers. Your extra £3,000 buys a mesh grille for the front, a rear spoiler and a set of ‘Sport’ logos for the side windows. The ride height has also been lowered by 20mm and shorter springs, new alloys and tyres have been fitted. There is no change to the 2,997cc 24-valve engine, but with 209bhp it offers reasonable performance anyway. The straight six is not the quickest in its class, but it’s smooth, quick-revving and quiet. A big part of any Lexus’s job is to cruise motorways and in this area at least, the changes are not beneficial. Not only does the ride seem to have become stiffer with the car tending to crash through potholes and over ridges more violently, but there is lots of tyre roar. While the unaltered steering could do with more feel, the car feels tighter on twisty roads. The rear-drive 300 was a good-handling car, but it did suffer from body roll. Now it stays flat and crisp. Unless you spend all your time on the motorway I'd say the money was well spent. It max speed is 143mph which is quite fast and the acceleration is extremely furious at 8.20 seconds. Although there are no deadlocks it has the other safety features. The economy on the fuel is also pretty low at only 24.8mpg
