Advantages: everything

Disadvantages: interior, nothing else

The new lotus Elise has done the impossible in being better than the Elise before it. The first edition Elise was nearly perfect in every way but the new Elise has beaten it. With improved handling as chassis is good for lovely cornering.
The new 1.8 litre engine balances speed with cornering perfectly. The corners are so smooth.
The shell though is just as good with the new curved headlights, which give the new car a more aggressive look than the older one.
If I drive a long the road in my Lotus people will look at the brilliant looks and just watch it drive past.
The only disappointment is the interior and roof. The small canvas roof is not a very good wind deflector and noise inside the cabin at high speed is bad. If you want to use the radio (one of the only standard features) to block out the drone from the engine then you can. But you can not have much else as CD and climate control are not options.
If you want the trills and looks then this is the car for you, but if want to have comfort and quite then this is not the car for you. Totally the opposite to the merc SLK which I have also reviewed.
Very good car

I know two people with the first Elise. Neither would buy another. A neighbour has spent over £7,000 in repairs, mainly on suspension, to try & cure road vibration - so bad it gave him tooth-ache. Even had the seats modified with extra foam. As for me, I don't fit. Always thought that Lotus were for those with 'slim boyish hips' -(usually hairdressers !)

I would prefer a lengthened Caterham 7, for about half the price, and probably put the balance on a new Civic Type R.
