... doors (which open in a similar fashion to the Enzo), and it's an effort to get into the drivers seat (which, unlike a conventional car, is in the middle, with a passenger seat on either side). Inside, it's a good driving position, and although it takes a while to get used to the middle seat, once you do get used to it it's far better than a tradional driving position. Thumb the starter button and that glorious 6.1 litre V12 engine growls into life, immediately responding to the slightest touch of the throttle peddle. ...more

Premium Review Mclaren F1: Dont wrap it around a tree... (688 words)
by - written on 05/11/01 (Very useful, 1134 readings)
Rating:

Ive only seen one MaClaren F1 on the road, or should I say around a tree, apart from the one I was a very nervous passenger in. I have sat in a couple in a Jaguar Showroom near my home but never allowed to bomb along the road. My friends dad is the head salesman at the GRange dealership and took me and him out for a spin in it and feel I should share some of my thoughts and experiences on it. Firstly, they dont make them anymore. If you want one, be prepared for a secondhand car. Expect to pay the wrong side of half a million for it too. Often fetching £650,000 for one car! Then again, you are buying the fastest production road car of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review McLaren F1 road test (526 words)

Tuesday. My phone in my pocket vibrates, signalling an incoming call. I take it out and see it's my friend (who owns all the cars I drive and very generously lets me use the more than he does!), I answer..."dude, my friend just lent me his McLaren F1 for the week to try it out as I'm thinking of buying one? Fancy a go?". Naturally, I was already out the door and driving to his house before he'd finished the call. The car I'll be driving is a bog standard F1 (I'd love to drive an LM, and hopefully I will *one* day), but even so this is an imposing beast. It sits very low, and wide, and those ultra wide headlights really make it look mean. Even ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Mclaren F1: Just to set a few things straight. (467 words)
by - written on 08/10/02 (Useful, 659 readings)
Rating:

Firstly I should point out that the car cost £540,000 + VAT new. To get hold of one these days - if you were to find one - would cost at least £1,000,000, so hardly a loss. As far as being a second hand car, if you were to purchase one, McLaren would re-trim and respray the car how you wanted it. It would not be fair to say that no car before the McLaren was built with the same "the best, regardless of cost" ethos but it is surely the only car in the world with which form follows function so closely. The styling is the result of extensive wind-tunnel testing and was not the first thing to be put to paper (unlike most "supercars"). Gold is the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Whoooooaaa!!!! (156 words)

Not only the fastest car in the world but also one of the most beatiful too. when i sat in it on parklane showroom, i felt as though i was in heavan. they sure know how to build a brilliant car. i was disapointed though at the staggering half million cost. and the £23,500 drop in cost in the first three years. thats waaaaaay more than what i earn. but on the good side, i went to live 2000 and there was a Maclaren F1 car and their latest range in home entertainment speakers. i said to the guy on the stall that if the spekers were as good as the car i would like to hear the. and i did. they were Whooooaa!!!! i had never heard sound quality so good. and they were made of ...  Read the complete review
