The Mercedes-Benz has changed the way many people think about diesel engines, it tries to make it fun. Traditionally, diesel engines are known to have stood for durability, to be environmentally friendly, easy to repair and to be very economical. They were also considered to be boring, but surely all of that has changed with the Mercedes-Benz ML270 CDI? This bulky off-roader has been around for two years now and the much needed diesel engines have finally arrived. Petrol V6s and V8s are very fun, but not if you pay your own petrol bills. You could end up spending a small fortune on just fuel! The Mercedes is well priced and it is very good value at under £29,000. The five-cylinder engines are very impressive. The ML has a good combination of a heavy big off-roader, diesel engine, an auto box and a vehicle that produces 163bhp. The 0-62mph time isn't spectacular, but 11.8 seconds is adequate to defeat its main rivals. The ride quality is very smooth and it is very quiet inside. Not only is this 4x4 powerful, it is also economical, as diesel engines usually are. The ML does a combined 29.7 miles per gallon! With strong anti-lock brakes, the M-Class feels very safe on the road. There is a nice interior package, with luxuries such as air-con, CD-changer and leather seats. It isn't the ultimate off-roader but it is the best diesel 4x4 around. The King of the 4x4 market is still the Toyota Land Cruiser.
