Advantages: Electric roof, creature comforts

Disadvantages: Ride and handling not brilliant

Underneath the skin the SLK is a very impressive car but from the first opinions it does not look that nice. When I had my Lotus Elise people would look at your car where ever you drove, but with the SLK it still looks like all the other mercs.
I give it a lot of credit as it is the first car to ever have an electric hard top later followed by the new Peugeot 206 convertible and Lexus.
As with all convertibles you still get wind noise but as the SLK has a hard top the noise is minimal and in the cold winters of Britain soft tops can get really cold, but not with this car.
Once you get into the car it has nice interior with leather seats and most stuff works electrically. The handling is not as sharp and responsive as some cars where as the chassis could have been made firmer. But for the price the engine is good with average acceleration and top speed. At 24,000 the merc is a good starter sports car and as you go up the range you get bigger engines for better thrills.
The boot space is also good for such a sports car when the roof is up, but when it is down you lose half the boot space as the roof does not fold into the compacted space of other cars.
If you want thrills and looks then this is not the car to buy but if you want good comfort in a convertible and reasonably good practicality then this is the car to buy.
With this car you get good speed and comfort so if you're not the outdoor type then this is the convertible for you.

Is the extra money for this car worth paying, compared to the Peugeot 206CC. Im interested in buying the 206CC.

Actually there were some Yank tanks with electric metal roofs in the 1950/60's.

T he SLK is not all it seems. My bro-in-law has owned two, and wasn't 100% happy with either. The current is an SLK 320 tiptronic.
