Most of the reviews on here for this particular car are from a man's point of view, those who understand cars more than us females, and there are more various factors I feel that influence a man when purchasing a car, however this review is obviously from a female point of view and probably will not fulfil that criteria that a man would be looking for.
I purchased my used ZR a couple of weeks ago, after having several new cars before I had decided that I wouldn't ever buy a new car again purely because of how they depreciate in value and in this current climate it is not really wise to purchase a new vehicle. It was a spontaneous decision tobuy a new car to be honest and rather than looking at several garages and choosing something that I liked I did it a different way this time and decided what car I wantd before I actually went in search of it. I had narrowed it down to 3 little hot hatches and then viewing a couple I had set my heart on the MG ZR.
I actually looked over a quite wide radius of various ZR's and travelled quite a bit to view and test some, however it wasn't looking good, I liked the car but for the money the cars that I had seen were not in that good condition. Disappointed I drove back to my home town and believe it or not spotted one on a garage less than 2 miles away from my house. Having looked around it, took it on a test, I had already made my mind up that this is going to be my new car.
The ZR is 1.4 engine, 105 BHP, which quite appealed to me, I didn't really want the 1.8 purely because of insurance and to be honest I do like to drive quite fast and I don't think I would have lived my life much longer being allowed to drive a 1.8i car, so the 1.4 suited me just fine.
THe car has all the featured that I could require and more to be honest, I don't want much from my car, however this cars has alloy wheels, electric windows, electric sunroof that completely opens and also opens on a tilt, electric heated wing mirrors, CD/Radio, however this was not factory fitted and was obviously bought after. The interior is grey with half leather sport bucket seats, and the dash and surrounding are also greay with a silver trim. From the outside, the car has a spoiler and the rear and skirts on the sides to give it that more sportier appeal.
To drive the car the steering is a little bit harder than that what I am used to, I have always been used to quite light steering, however this is beacuse of the make of the car, and with sports suspension you can feel every single bump that you go over, but you have to accept this before purchasing the car obviously. IN general the ride is very nice, the car pulls off smooth, changes gear smoothly and brakes well. The only problem that I find is that sometime it doesn't like breaking when going around a corner.
The car is group 7 insurance, so pretty low and you can obtain this quite cheaply online thorugh recommended insurers, the tax is also relatively low and fuel consumption is average and I can get more to twenty pound than I anticipated.
It's a good sporty little car that is ideal for a family aswell.

- 04/10/09 Good to see a woman's point of view... we do drive as well after all! I've got the boring version of this car - a Rover 25. Have been longing after a MG Zr for so long but unfortunately money is a problem! Great review x |

- 04/09/09 No cars like braking when going round a corner. Try breaking before you turn in to the corner then accelerate out. Much safer, and sooooo much more fun. |
