Credit crunch luxury for the price of a shed

This review is for the Mitsubishi space star 1.6 equipe which is slightly more powerful than the 1.3. The misubishi space star has been seriously overlooked and under rated as part of the mitsubishi fleet. I purchased mine being a 6 month only ex demo vehicle at a reasonabe price of £7000.
Space 7/10 Being named the space star you automatically assume it has the makings of a people carrier but you would be mistaken, similar in shape and has plenty of leg room but only 5 seats with little versitility in creating space by lowering the back seat. The boot is also something of a disappointment, it is a hatchback and has a shallow rim so much so that i once drove off from the supermarket having left the boot slightly ajar and lost at least 2 shopping bags in the process. Would probably fit around 8 shopping bags in the boot. the parcel shelf is flimsy and a roller mechanism which has been known to spring back on occasions. a feature i am not too fond of. I am rating it a 7 for space because i have long legs and like plenty of room when driving and the model of the car affords enough leg room in the rear when my legs are extended to drive. Has a glove box,and a storage tray under the passenger seat

Engine 7/10 awarded for reliability and economy
1.6 petrol engine is smooth to drive and nippy, the downside is that it is noisy on the motorway and also isnt overly happy about travelling at speeds in excess of 85 mph which shouldnt be a problem in this country. I have found it overall economical for the size of the car especially on long journeys as it boasts a 5 speed gearbox. Had the car for 5 years now and touch wod had no repairs needed yet.

      Tyres 8/10 no trouble yet
alloy wheels which are a definate plus point with no worry about your wheel trims rolling down the road past you. Had the car for nearly 5 years and had no trouble with tracking or anything

Stereo 6/10 - standard CD player and radio, the ariel isnt retractable so i dont take it through car washes, sound quality is lost as volume is raised

Comfort 9/10 High seats great visibility when driving, lots of leg room front and back, drivers seat is adjustable up and down as well as forward and back. Arm rest in back seat, head rests on all 5 seats.

Additional features 9/10 Air conditioning excellent!!! not that we have hot summers but definately a bonus. Also boasts a sunroof which is electric and slides back and tilts also. Has 2 cup holders in the front brilliant for a coffee on the go. Arm reat at rear also has drinks holder. Electric windows in the front. heated wing mirrors however i have unfortunately cracked these and they are expensive to replace and have to be replaced through the dealership. I particularly like the digital display which tells you the temperature and how much miles worth of petrol you have left, it also displays CD and radio information.

      Overall rating 8/10
I am more than happy with my car and looking at what else is on offer for the money i think i will stick with my trusty reliable space star. Loads of extras well worth the money. Always starts first time even in cold weather!
