I have an 'N' Reg Nissan 200SX Turbo Automatic, that has about 125,000 miles on the clock (mostly motorway miles, I am assured). I purchased the car back in September and have had no problems with it. It has been slightly modified, with lift/dump valve stuff, which makes the car very powerful. I don't know what the Bhp is, but I believe the car is too powerful for the rest of the specification. I have twice nearly left the road through too much foot pressure! Apart from that, the car drives beautifully and can out-accelerate most cars on the road today. Not that I bought it for that, but it is nice when you know that drivers who intend to cut you up at roundabouts and junctions will in no way be able to do so. The handling around corners is very good, as long as you know how much pressure to apply at the pedal. The car is very comfortable in front, but isn't really designed for back seat passengers in mind. In-car entertainment is good, and the electrics are what you expect with a top range sports car. ABS (a must in any purchase), Air-con, air-bags, are standard. One problem I have noticed is that the drivers door has sunk about 5mm at the rear end, thus allowing a bit of wind noise at high speeds. I haven't yet repaired it, but Nissan told me that the central swing arm weld has broken, thus allowing the other two door pins to drop slightly. Not sure they know what they are talking about, so am open to ideas. I think the manufacturers should have considered traction control as an option with this car, as fitting wider wheels may not solve the problems caused by a heavy foot.
Having first looked at buying a Nissan 200sx 6 years ago BC (Before Children) we have not been in a position over the last few years to concider one. Now, having reached a point of needing a second car, we got drawn back to looking at this racey little number. Not at all practical with 2 kids - but fun never the less. Anyway we have taken the plunge and bought an old one. And it has certainly been worth the wait - I adsolutlely love driving this car. Put your foot down and it just goes !!! We shopped around and got an absolute bargin. These cars seem to be much loved and therefore very well looked after. The insurance on an older one is not too steep (if you are over 30 with a full NCD) Yet to really find out about fuel econony (will probably cost a fortune because we keep wanting to go out in it) We were warned to check the turbos because these can need replacing - fortunatly we found one that had had the turbo and engine recently replaced. And we have discovered that it is possible to fit a baby and a 4 year onl in the back (just!!!)
A few months ago I finally took the plunge (after years of thinking about it) and bought a 2nd hand Nissan 200SX. I haven't been disappointed. 200 bhp and 0-60 in about 6 seconds is easily enough performance for me, the handling is good and the car looks great. CD, leather & air con all add to the pleasurable driving experience. The insurance weighed in at £754 (5 years NCD, 26 year old, group 17), almost treble what I paid on my previous group 8 car but thats understandable, and worth paying.
