Buy a used car, it is a minefield... buy a Nissan Almera and feel relieved!

I was in desperate need of another car, my chitty chitty bang bang had literally dropped dead in front of my very eyes...
I was open minded as to what car to get next as my criteria was nothing out of the ordinary... respectable, reliable and not too juicy..
I am a woman in a car alone each day, driving a round trip of 35 miles per day through country lanes, and often in the dark.. I needed to feel safe.
Sadly I was not in the market for a new car, so it makes it harder to get the right one at the right price.. but I think I have found a great friend in my Nissan.
I bought a Nissan Almera for just under £2000, it is 8 years old and I was lucky enough to have a full MOT and 6 months tax..
All the old MOTs and service history came with the car... I believe I have landed myself with a diamond..
It is an automatic, 1.8 - ideally I would have gone for manual and smaller engine, but the whole package was just too good,
It drives like a new car, it doesn't show any signs of being a car heading towards 10 years old.
It has every optional extra - electric sun roof, air con, power assisted steering, air bags, cd radio, central locking... literally every optional extra. I don't know if this came as standard when new. The on board computer shows MPG, how many miles I have done, how many miles I have got left....
Boot space is superb...rear leg room, superb...

If I had to state a disadvantage it would be that the MPG could be better, I average between 30 and 35MPG,

Growing up I remember Datsuns had a bad name, now I am grown up I can see that Nissan have too, absolutely superb... love this car.

      Keep away from Nissan Almeras

Nissan Almera 2003, Petrol, 1.5, Manual

It's a good car for the price.
It drives well and I think it's very economical.
I was impressed by the way dealt with the faulty headlights. I gave Nissan a call, the following day it was fixed for free.
Lately it started to idle badly, also stalls and wouldn't start. In the last couple of days it took me 45 min to start it, when old bangers drove off without any problems.
Google suggested this is a common problem with Nissan Almeras caused by a faulty timing chain which stretches and makes the car very jerky and a nightmare to start and even dagnerous as it stalls without a warning.
Diagnostics at a Nissan garage confirmed that it's a streched Timing Chain which costs £900 to fix.
Gave Nissan a call and said to them that my car stalled when I was driving it on the motorway, they didn't want to know and said nobody reported the Timing Chain defect.
Some people reported this problem at 36k miles.
I hope Nissan would fix this defect before someone loses their life.
I thought I bought myself a reliable car but I was disappointed.
I will never a Nissan again.
