Advantages: Good price, economical
Disadvantages: Timing chain makes the Nissan Almera dangerous
Nissan Almera 2003, Petrol, 1.5, Manual
It's a good car for the price.
It drives well and I think it's very economical.
I was impressed by the way dealt with the faulty headlights. I gave Nissan a call, the following day it was fixed for free.
Lately it started to idle badly, also stalls and wouldn't start. In the last couple of days it took me 45 min to start it, when old bangers drove off without any problems.
Google suggested this is a common problem with Nissan Almeras caused by a faulty timing chain which stretches and makes the car very jerky and a nightmare to start and even dagnerous as it stalls without a warning.
Diagnostics at a Nissan garage confirmed that it's a streched Timing Chain which costs £900 to fix.
Gave Nissan a call and said to them that my car stalled when I was driving it on the motorway, they didn't want to know and said nobody reported the Timing Chain defect.
Some people reported this problem at 36k miles.
I hope Nissan would fix this defect before someone loses their life.
I thought I bought myself a reliable car but I was disappointed.
I will never a Nissan again.
Summary: Keep away from Nissan Almeras
