The Nissan Almera Tino SE is a pleasure to use and to drive. This is clearly due to the amount of thought given to its design - both in relation to the big things and to the detail. The performance, while not electrifying, is more than adequate for all types of driving conditions. The 5-speed gearbox is precise and easy to use and the engine when used intelligently with the gears provides more than adequate performance for all road and traffic conditions. The fuel-consumption is surprisingly frugal, rarely giving less than 40 MPG for most road conditions. The steering, with its tactile-feel power-assistance, is precise both at speed and in manoevering conditions. The turning-circle and high driving positoin makes parking a breeze. What makes the Tino stand head and shoulders above other vehicles is the attention to detail in the interior design. Every space bit of space has been cleverly used to provide storage for everything from the children's toys to sunglasses. Professional automobile reviewers have been slightly cynical about these cubby-hole storage places - but to a real every-day driver thay are a real boon. Seating is on the firm side, but very comfortable - especially when spending long periods at the wheel. The seating positions have more adjustments than most vehicles, and the rear passengers have individial seat adjustments. Categorised as an MPV (Multi-Purpose Vehicle), the Tino offers many seating combinations from a full five-seater with more than adequate luggage storage, through a four seater with a table between the rear seats, to a driver/passenger-only arrangement with the rear seats removed. For everyday carriage of those large and bulky items the rear seats can be folded down in various configurations. The heating/ventilation system is very good. The air-conditioning is of especial benefit when returning to a parked vehicle on a sunny day, rapidly lowering the interior temperature to a
comfortable level. Safely has also been given much attention with both driver and front-passenge airbags, and the Tino was very well rated in EC safety testing. All in all, a pleasure to use and drive, and should appeal to all drivers from the shopper to the businessman travelling long distances daily.
