I have to say, if you are a young driver looking for something to get you through your test and beyond, I couldn't recommend the ('older' style) Nissan Micra enough. My dad and sister both had the 'boxy' models and they just lasted them forever, so when I was looking for a starter car I decided that a Micra was the way to go. I currently have a 'bubble shaped' 1995 N-reg which I bought in 2005. In the last 4 years I haven't had to spend a penny on it to get it through it's MOT, despite doing the average 10,000 miles a year. I had to get the tyres replaced a couple of times and recently had to replace the exhaust, but these are all minor expenses ... Read the complete review

Although this may not have the features and extras of many of the cars in its class such as electric windows which come as standard on al Fiat Punto's and Air Conditioning which come on some of the others. It has a certain character that the others don't have, despite going slowly, you feel like you are going along at a quite substantial speed. As one of my friends late fathers used to call his the silver Bullet!! Mines a dark green one, with 2 previous owners from new and 80,000 miles on the clock, it will take all my junk (including friends and friends of little brothers, and the little brothers) wherever we want to go, although this obviously isn't the car for ... Well since its coming up for a year since I bought my K reg Micra I needed to update my review on her. She has done me proud in the 11 months since I bought her but it is coming up to the time when she will be going off the roads for the very last time (since she is certain to fail the MOT and a mechanic friend has estimated the work will cost over £400 to get her through it).
