Review - Nissan Micra 1.0 S 5 Door
I bought my Micra as a second car / run-around due to its small size, low cost to buy and cheap running expenses. I went for the 5 door option as I have a dog and was mindful of getting the pooch in and out every weekend!
I've broken my review down into pro's and con's for easy reading:
Pro's:
> Price - I paid under £2000 for my car from an independent dealer;
> Running costs - after some initial work on the throttle bodies (under warranty) it was a very reliable little motor! In around two years of ownership it never skipped a beat. Even consumables like brake pads etc. were quite cheap;
> Economy - It was quite economical and averaged between 40mpg and 50mpg with steady driving;
> Town ability - It was great in town! Nippy in traffic, loads of visibility all round, easy to park (despite the absence of power steering) and small enough to fit into the tightest of spaces!
> Load capacity - It amazed me how much could be fitted in when you took out the parcel shelf and folded the seats! I used it for work purposes occasionally and it was a good little load-lugger!
Con's:
> Value - It didn't hold it's value well and I sold it for £600 after two years of ownership (although, admittedly, it did need some work doing!);
> Motorway Capability - It wasn't cut out for long journey's or motorway mileage. It was just too small inside and the engine felt overstretched over long distances. However, it should be remembered that this wasn't really what the car was designed for!
Summary: A good budget city car.
