Advantages: Reliable, cost effective car

Disadvantages: Corroded cross member

I have owned my Nissan Micra for about two years now. I bought it third-hand from my sister who bought it previously from a friends mother. So 3 lady owners so far and it is still going strong!

I bought this car as it was convenient and my old one had died (Puteot 106), at first I was sceptical over the Micra as when I thought 'Micra' I always thought of some old dear tootling around in one at about 40mph on motorways. However I needed a car in a hurry so it was going to have to do! As it has turned out so far it has been the best car I have ever owned.

It is the old model, most basic model with only a 1 litre engine. However it can shift when required! Needless to say you won't be beating anyone pulling away from traffic lights but it does have some power to it! I can easily do the 70mph speed limit without everything in the car rattling like it wants to fall off!

The interior of the car in comfy, the boot space is sufficient for two to pack for a weeks holiday. You may have trouble though if you tried to fit suitcases in it! The interior materials are easily cleaned and have continued to look almost brand new even though the car is now 9 years old.

With the back seats down you can fit a bike in without the wheels removed, it's a bit of a squash but you can see how spacious it really is, it is certainly deceptive as most people think you couldn't swing a cat in there!

The mpg are great, not as good as a diesel would get. It costs about £35 to fill up and you'll get about 300 hundred miles for that depending on your driving.

Micras suffer from cross section rot and mine has started to show signs of this however this does not have to be terminal as it has be treated with Waxoyl to slow the process.

This model Micra comes with a tape player, who has a tapes these days??? I had to take it out and fit a CD player!

It is a real shame they stopped making this model Micra as I have heard some very mixed reports about the new micra, including a negative report from someone who works in a dealership garage! I believe they made the 'old' Micra up to 2002 so you can still pick up a one that's not too old. Their price can seem more than other small cars. This is normally because they have low mileage but also because they are so reliable. Parts are cheap if ever required too!

All in all this is a great little car, not only as a 'city car' but I do quite a bit of mileage with my job and I have found it nothing but perfect for these work trips. Admittedly my work trips aren't around the UK, I think that maybe if I had to travel the length of the country then I may prefer something a little newer.

Summary: Great car for the city and more
