Advantages: Cheap to run
Disadvantages: No good for large family
I own the Nissan Micra LS 3 door saloon [hatchback], 988 cc petrol engine. Its the 1990 Hreg model with curves and full plastic bumpers This car looks good both inside and out, It looks less like a box now its gained a few curves, The body work has lasted well as with most Nissan cars. Yes there as been rust, but only small amounts which were easily touched up. The running gear, engine, gearbox and breaks etc., are still working well, and have needed little maintenance Inside is neat and tidy and well set out, The seats, door trims and dash are all matching. The controls are easy to reach when driving. The seats are comfortable and come with head rests and adjust quite well for different leg lengths, and plenty of head room. I'm 5' 9"ish and fit in with room to spare. The instrument panel is easy to see and gives you a speedometer and the normal range of warning lights and gauges. Three things missing which I miss are no intermittent wipe on the front wipers for light rain, And no rear wiper which you need in heavy rain. And a clock. Getting in and out is made easy with the big doors and adjustable front seats, even getting in the back is easy. The hatch opens to find a decent size storage space for a small car. And if you need more space the rear seats not only fold down but also once down they will lift and go right up against the front seats. I can manage to fit a full 3 week shop for a family of four in the car, and that's a lot of shopping. The Micra may only be a small car with a 988 cc engine but its still good at pulling away and is quite nippy. It may take a while to get to 60 mph but I'm in no rush, And it might only reach 100 mph {with a good tail wind and down hill }, But your only allowed to do 70 mph anyway. The drive and handling are good and its quiet enough to hear the radio on a low volume. The cost of running is very good with a low insurance group rating, Cheaper tax due
to a small engine and a good petrol consumption rate running on unleaded petrol. The tyres are a smaller size which are cheaper to buy. The only thing about this car that I hate is the bonnet opens the wrong way, Towards the front of the engine bay. This means it can get in the way if you try to work in a garage, checking oil/water levels, spark plugs etc. This is the best second hand car I have owned and I have had a few from different manufactures, And this is the one I will keep the longest. My family and neighbours also drive Micras and I can well recommend them.
