Advantages: Cheap, Economical

Disadvantages: Small theft risk, Cheap insurance

We owned our last Micra for 13 years. We couldn't get rid of it as it was so cheap to run.

This car is perfect as a 2nd car for the school run, shopping etc. It requires very little maintenance and runs forever on a gallon of petrol.

Even at 13 years old it was still recording 40+ to the gallon.

Look out for any rust around the sills and also the rear window seals.

Good examples are not that hard to find, as an awful lot were purchased as 2nd cars or by driving schools ( check the clutch).

It also has the added "benefit" of no street cred - therefore the little brats who steal cars leave Micra's alone!

If there is a problem with Micra's, it tends to be the condenser which causes the uneven running. This is not easy to spot and most would check HT leads, plugs etc first. Don't, because you're wasting time and money.

Overall, I would thoroughly recommend the car, but bear in mind it is not designed for heavy motorway use but as a town car.

Hi Steve,
Can you send me more info about this condenser problem? I have a micra and it isn't running right, it has been hesitating alot and not idleing completely smoothly. I was going to change the HT leads at the weekend until I read your post. Could you maybe explain exactly what the condenser is, where it is located, what it does and what needs to be done if it is faulty.

Thanks Alan
