I wanted something else after my Saab 93 Convertible and had a Jaguar XJ6 for a year as an inbetween.... When we moved to our house in the country I realised that I wanted a 4x4, lots of luggage space and the high commanding drive attracted me.

I tried the M-class, X5, Amazon, Shogun, Colorado and then drove past a Nissan dealer where I noticed the current Patrol GR. I made a test-drive and really enjoyed it. Before I was brainwashed by all the magazines and reviews which say it is to basic and very sluggish. Well I just want to challenge anyone to drive this 3.0 direct injection diesel engine. Of-course if you pitch it against a 4.7 liter V8 petrol engine it is slow, but that is not comparing like for like. And yes the X5 3.0d engine is very hard to beat as well.

What made me swing was the price versus performance. I was able to pick this car up for a little £22,995 brand new build to spec original UK dealer. For this you get 7 seats (two fold-up), full leather, automatic, climate control, sun roof etc....That is a massive saving compared to any of the other brands. I have taken it off-road and it is awesome. I have taken it on a run to Spain, 2700 miles in two weeks, it was so comfortable took all the kids, luggage, wife etc...And it returned 34mpg....

On top of that it has got, driver, passenger and side airbags.....And I had to have its first major service which was only £95, that is less than my wife's Golf....

I would say to anyone in the market for a 4x4, try out this car and talk to your UK dealer regarding a discount. They dropped the list price by £9k for me.....
