Advantages: Good handling

Disadvantages: Poor fuel consumption

My dad picked up a P Reg Nissan Primera for £7000, a bargain particularly when it was originally a show car and only had 6,000 miles on the clock. It was Lime green in colour but that's not the point.

Previously he had had a Rover, heavy on the steering and poor handling, it also ate fuel like nobodies business, he traded that in with the money for this new car.

Our family has always had a tradition for selecting to stick with the Nissan company. This is because it has a history of being extremely reliable and superb in the handling and driving front. I have a Nissan Sunny 1.6 myself and have indeed written an opinion on that too if you care to take a look. The reason i am able to write my opinion on the Nissan Primera without actually owning the car is that i have driven it, on holidays and when he first brought the car, 2 years ago.

The best thing about the Nissan Primera 2.0 is that it handles and drives superbly. It is so smooth, you hardly notice the gear changes, and it accelerates extremly well even up hills, provided you are in a low enough gear, but that is the same with most cars. It is very spacious, i have very long legs and can still fit in the back with comfort, that was indeed one of the factors we were looking for when buying the car, it is also very comfortable. The Primera is very similar to the Skoda Octavia in how it drives and handles but not in how spacious and comfortable it is.

The one dissappointing aspect to the car is that it eats petrol like nobodies business being a 2.0 litre car. This is particularly a problem when driving short journeys, as being in jams in town centres doesn't help matters. Also when driving slowly, controlling on the clutch it struggles, but this happens very rarely.

This car is suitable for families really, when you need a large space for 3 or 4 people to drive in comfort. I would definetely recommmend it for that use. If however you are a couple or individu
al driver i would think you'd be far more suited to a car with a much smaller engine with a far better fuel consumption. Having a smaller engine also brings down the insurance band and saves you a lot of money.

Overall a pretty good car which drives and handles well but is poor on fuel consumption. It is spacious and a superb family car. It's your call, but i would say this you are sure to have a reliable car, which is very important in considering which car to buy.

Always been a Nissan fan, and before that a Honda fan. Surprised at your disappointment with consumption. Our K reg 2ltr Primera estate still manages 37mpg when cruising and careful driving though I know that is low on today's modern car standards. Maybe worth getting a specialised tune up.

I had one of these as a hire car for a couple of weeks after a dustbin lorry drove over (through) my car.

I have to say that it was an excellent car to drive, performed very well, and was well equipped.

But... ..

Its a Nissan, and it looks like a Nissan....boring boring boring!!
