Advantages: awsome performance, great looks, great sound, great drive
Disadvantages: 17mpg! a beast in the wet.
Nissan Skyline R33 gts-t.
I imported my Skyline R33 gts-t in 2006 from Japan. The car was in immaculate condition and the only modifications were a front and rear strut brace.
At the time of importing the Skyline I also owned a Subaru Impreza Turbo, so It would be interesting to see how these two cars compared.
Firstly the Skyline has 250bhp compared to the Impreza'a 215bhp, but as the Skyline is the heavier car, the performance in a straight line was very similar to that of the Impreza. Out of the two, the Skyline was definitely the more fun, being rear wheel drive, no traction control, it led to many hairy moments in wet conditions. Many a time would I find myself facing the wrong way on a wet roundabout.
Out of town on fast twisty B roads the Skyline with it's HICAS 4 wheel steering felt very nimble indeed. My Skyline had sports alloys fitted with 225 on the front and 285 on the rear, it was also lowered. The suspension kit on my Skyline which was fitted in Japan, although very low, still had good damping qualities and was not too harsh over bumps.
It turned heads everywhere it went, and it had a performance back box which exploited the sound of its straight 6 2.5 litre engine.
The only down side to the car that I could find was the small boot space for a car of this size.
On the plus side it had automatic climate control, electric folding mirrors, and the HICAS 4 wheel steering.
My Impreza was definitely the faster car from point to point, but the Skyline was the most entertaining. Every time you went into a corner you were wondering whether you were going to come out of it alive.
Summary: A car that needs respect. a truely all time great.
