Advantages: Solid feel, great driving experience
Disadvantages: Diesel engine is quite noisy
My husband and I are currently deciding which car to buy to replace his beloved Mini Cooper as we are planning to start a family soon and need a car which is better suited to a family's needs. We have test-driven numerous cars and I have a lot to say about all of them. I will be focussing mainly on telling you about the features and specifications that I am looking for in a family car i.e. space, comfort and the little added luxuries which make life a bit easier.
This review is about the sure-footed Nissan X-trail. We both found that the X-trail is very comfortable to drive even though it feels very big. It has a definite off-road feel, but on the negative side it sounds like a diesel. My husband and I did not like the old X-trail model as the instrument panel was situated in the middle of the dashboard. Luckily Nissan realised that most people do not like the instrument panel in the middle and have moved it to the correct position, i.e. in front of the driver, in the new models. The dashboard is very attractive with all dials and buttons having a solid feel about them. The X-trail is not very fuel efficient at 34.9MPG (combined), with carbon emissions at 216.
The model we chose is the automatic X-trail 2.0 turbo diesel Tekna 4WD with the following features:
* Reversing camera
* Advanced navigation system with 7" display
* BOSE sound system
* Air conditioning
* Bluetooth connectivity
* Flat loading bay for boot (easy to get a push chair in and out!) with luggage capacity of 603 Litres
* Plenty of legroom in the rear
* High driving position
* Solidly built with good quality materials
* Plenty of airbags for driver and passengers
* Big mirrors with good visibility all round
* Split-level boot with drawer
* HUGE electric sunroof
* Uphill start and downhill drive support
* Good off-road capabilities
The X-trail is not the most attractive SUV design on the market, but the comfort of the inside more than makes up for it. The automatic X-trail 2.0 turbo diesel Tekna 4WD (without added extras) costs £26 795.
Summary: One of the best SUV's for the price
