Advantages: Cheap to run, insure and maintain
Disadvantages: Its no Ferrari, brakes need getting used to.
Before I start this reveiw I'd just tlike to make it clear that I have recently got rid of my little 106, I've given it to my nephew as he has just passed his test and needs a reliable little run about.
I had my 106 given to me by my father in law in December 2005 to use as a daily runabout to get to work and back etc as I'd bought a sportscar that I was not prepared to use daily as costs would have been prohibitive.
The car was in absolutely superb condition on a "L" registration and had covered approximately 110000 miles when I got it. My father in law had purchased it 2nd hand with about 75000 miles on the clock 3 years earlier and had used it for commuting weekly since then really racking up the miles and the car never let him down once in all that time.
When I got the car I needed to fit a new rear exhaust section that cost me £45 and 2 new tyres that cost me £60 for the pair. Other than that in the 30 months I ran the car it sailed through 2 MOT's without any problems.
It was absolutely superb on fuel consumption, I reckon I was returning well over 50mpg which these days is a bonus! Reliability was amazing, I could leave the car stood for a fortnight in winter, it would be covered in frost and snow etc, but it never failed to start 1st time every time.
If its any use to you I am over 6 feet tall but headroom and comfort were more than adequate for me.
Disadvantages? Well the brakes were not the best in the world but if you adapt your driving style to allow for the fact that it is not a new car you will be fine.
Finally just want to add that my nephew thinks it is fab and loves the car to bits and it has now covered over 130000 miles and still going strong. To be brutally honest I wish I'd kept oit as it is a superb little run about.
Summary: A relaible day to day run about, a great little car.
