Advantages: Great looks, small bills

Disadvantages: foot strap grab handles!

I drive a Peugeot 106 Quiksilver and have done for seven months now. I love it! The 1.4 engine is very responsive and yet is still incredibly efficient!

Let's start with the girly stuff. The colour is gorgeous, platinum silver, so it doesn't look grey and doesn't really show the dirt. The interior is very smart and black, there are no acres of grey plastic in this little car. The Quiksilver badge is everywhere but not obtrusively so. The seats are very comfortable, almost sporty. There is a surprising amount of leg room everywhere and does seat four fairly comfortably. (That's four over 5' 5"). I'm 5' 10" and have no real problem with the driving position though a height adjustable steering wheel would be a great bonus.

Now to the gritty stuff. The 1.4 engine produces 75-80 bhp, not a lot I may hear you say. It appears to be more than adequate for this little car and is complimented by a suspension set up that means it handles incredibly well. Top Gear rate it as the second best handling car, not in its class, but ever!!! The power band is at about 5,000 revs and it produces a very satisfying grunting noise that will turn heads!

The CD player will also turn heads as the sound system is very competent both at low and high volumes.

As a driver the only disadvantages I have found don't bother me, they bother other people. The footstrap grab handles have an unfortunate habit of braining anyone over 5'2" as they get in the passenger seat. They do however look cool! The headlights on dipped beam do appear to be a little bright for a small number of other drivers who will flash and gesture in annoyance at you for driving around on full beam. The best way I have found of dealing with this is to show them what full beam really looks like and smile sweetly at their astonishment!!

The car, with its GTI body kit looks gorgeous but isn't outrageously expensive and wit
h free insurance for those over 21 for a year you can't really go wrong! The only thing missing is a set of alloys which could be bought with the money you save on the insurance!

Good to hear another person opinion on the legend of the 106 quicksilver. Enjoyed reading your review and inspired me to write my own. It appears that everyone is annoyed at that stupid fog light thing, but lets go and get it rewired, sit back, and drive the beasts! Cheers.
