Advantages: Rare, handles like a go kart, no 'boy racer' image, true enthusiast car
Disadvantages: Breaks down, come on, it's bloody French.
Just to let you know, it's bloody hard to summarise thia car in words. I smile every day when I see it and have a cheesey grin on my face when I drive it.
Well, the Peugeot 106 Series 2 Rallye. Yep, I'm lucky enough to own one of these rare beauties.
Believe it or not, these were introduced into the UK market as a 'cheap alternative' for the people who wanted a GTi but could not afford one. Peugeot stripped the luxuries such as electric windows, ABS, central locking, alarm, power steering, leather seats and only replcaed the seats, with lighter ones!
The car is over 50kg lighter than the Gti, and though lacks a healthy 20+bhp over the GTi, the weight makes up for it.
Yes peugeots have awkward driving positions, they'll probably crumple if you hit a badger, they break down (a lot), they're cheap and plasticy, but by heck, it's worth it!
Only 500 UK rallyes were made 10 years ago, 250 in Indigo blue and 250 in Bianca white. Now days, there are about 400 left, and with 33 million cars on the road, that makes the rallye a very very rare car indeed. To put it in perspective, however often you see a lambourghini, divide that by 4, and that's about how often you'll see a rallye.
What I love about the rallye is how it just sticks two fingers up tot he world. It's unique logo (the red/blue/yellow stickers) are unique and don't relie on 'Gti sport' rubbish, you know when you're behind a rallye it's something special.
I'm endlessly in arguements with people who rave about the GTi and Saxo VTS being better cars, which they are (statisticly). If I wanted a fast car, I would have bought a Nova SRi or Redtop corsa....
To have a car which easily performs the same as the Gti/VTS, yet takes MONTHS before you see one on the road, handles fantatsicly, has a great community, makes you smile like a child every time you look at it, tests your patience, driving skills and passion for cars, takes a rallye (or a 205 gti 1.9).

I love this car, it makes me happy to even share my love for this car. My partner is frustrated with my love for it but what does she know?
Get it as a weekend car though, it's likely to breakdown which won't impress your boss. Don't drive it like an idiot, if you want to drive like an idiot, get a VTR. Rallye drivers are not boy racers, we love driving, we love driving fast, that's why we attend track days.
Summary: Only buy one if you're willing to put in the work, please don't write them off.
