When I decided to get a new car, I knew it had to be a Peugeot. I finally bought one and part exchanged my old Volkswagen Polo (my first ever banger) and I was so pleased with the result. It was an 'L' registration, 1.4L XT and cost me only £2600 part exchange. There are so many positive things about my 106 (which over-shadow the negative) and it is a very nice car to drive. ************************* Handling/Steering: The steering is unbelievibly easy, the ride is smooth, and the engine is so quiet that it makes you think whether the car is actually still running (compared to the Polo anyway!). Unlike my old car it is very ... Read the complete review

I had a 92J 106 for about 12 months. It was a 3-door 1.1 petrol version. The XT is quite a smart little version - remote central locking, body-colour bumpers, tinted glass, 4-speaker stereo, split rear seats. The engine was the carburettor type used in the very first 106's. It was quickly replaced in 93 (I think) by the injection models. Economically, for a car of its age, it was good: around 300 town miles to the tank. Inside, its a big little car - there's plenty of legroom for all, front and back, and the boot is, well, its the boot of a supermini, but its good. What there is not is plenty of space between the pedals - I wonder if Peugeot ... Read the complete review

205 GTi it's not, but the 106 XS is sure to become a classic. It has quite a torquey 1360cc SPFi engine and 5 spoke alloys shod in 165/60 baby Pirelli P2000s which make it look as cute as a terrier! Unfortunately, this car is not about outright speed and you have to buy the XSi model for that (with 33% more power), but the handling is sharp with very little body roll and superb grip. I do tend to chuck mine around corners rather too much and get through a set of tyres a year on only 8000 miles! At 47 quid a throw that's not really very cheap ... but boy is it fun! OK, so am I being a bit over enthusiastic about this little machine? ... Read the complete review

Men with big feet (and women for that matter), will have problems driving the Peugeot 106. I have size 5 feet, and had great difficulty with the pedals on this little one (they are far far too clost together). I'm a great fan of little cars, and have had no problems flipping between AXs, R5s and 205s. Stepping into a 106 was awful. Yes, it's a small, stylish looking car, but despite Peugeot's sparse styling, it feels cramped. Drive-wise, once you get past the initial feeling that you're in danger of both breaking, accelerating, and putting the clutch down with your feet, it's not that great either. I love french suspension, and quite ... Read the complete review
