Peugeot 107 5-door
Advantages: Cost, size and low insurance group
Disadvantages: Limited boot space [but rear seats can be folded]
My 18 year old daughter [can't believe she is that age!] just passed her test. She was lucky enough to have inherited some money [thanks John!] and we decided she should get a car as soon as possible.
Due to her age the choice of cars was restricted to those in low insurance groups. I had no idea what to go for and went out looking with an open mind. We were pretty quickly attracted to the Toyota Aygo as it was a fairly good looking car bit also small enough that I felt she would be comfortable with. After some investigation we found that the Citroen C1and Peugeot 107 were the same car just differently branded.
All the cars were pretty much identical to each other and my daughter was not really fussed over which one she got.
We looked into it and soon found a very low mileage 107 [5 door] for a great price. The car was purchased just before she passed her test and when she did pass it she was desperate to go out in her car. Unfortunately the first drive was a bit of a let down as she found the clutch biting point was a bit on the high side. This shook her confidence a bit but I told her to stick in and that she would get used to it - needless to say she has! She was out on her own tonight and picked up/dropped off a friend - I think my taxi service might no longer be required!
It's early days re the reliability etc of the car but from what I have seen it is ideal for the first time driver - cheap to buy, cheap to insure £20 per year road tax etc etc!!
I have no problems on recommending this car.
Summary: A brilliant first car. Small, low insurance group and fun to drive
