Advantages: Cheap, better than average car

Disadvantages: Brakes and understeer problems

The 205 XS is a reasonable car, but it suffers from a couple of faults. Firstly, the brakes are poor, as with a lot of Peugeots. Secondly, it understeers easily when going into corners, you point it one way and it decides it wants to go straight on!

Speed wise it's OK but not fantastically quick. It will beat most average cars in a standing start, but put it head to head with something like a Golf GTi and you've got no chance.

As a car the design is a little bit outdated. It has no ABS, electric windows, standard alarm or power steering. It is basic, and is showing it's age.

I've had my 65,000 mile G reg for nearly four years and I've had the MOT done recently. It failed, but only on a broken rear brake light, so it must be fairly well put together!

In summary, it's an OK sort or car if you want a step up from a Fiesta, but if you can afford the extra go for a 1.6 GTi or even 1.9.
