Advantages: Fun Fun Fun, and fast with an Mi16
Disadvantages: Rattles! and find a good one thats been looked after
I have had four 205's in my life time so I am familiar with them, I am confused however why dooyoo have put a damn picture of a clio up?!?!?
Anyhow, I have owned in this order:
Peugeot 205 XS
Peugeot 205 XS
Peugeot 205 1.6 Gti
Peugeot 205 1.6 Gti (converted to Mi16)
The XS:
The 205 xs is a barrel of laughs if you can still get hold of one, i had my two in about 2002/4 but they;re getting very rare now. They are fun too drive, very rev happy for an 8v carb motor.
they are a 1.4 engined car that will reach 60 in about 9 secs ish, same engine as found in the AX GT. So it was not too far off the 1.6 GTi 0-60 time. But not everything is about 0-60 the sound of the engine in the XS sounds lovely and I had a Pipercross filter put on mine which made it sound like the engine was more like a 1.9, certain mods can be done but becasue they don't have the arches they won't look like a GTi, and please don't try, they are a unique car of their own which I actually enjoyed more than my 1.6 GTI when i had it (honest)
The 1.6
Rev happy but didn't feel as frantic as the XS, may just be me that had a lively XS but i have heard other good reviews of that car. Thats not to knock the 1.6 down however because it was a fantastic motor and still is in its own right. It still has cult status and a few forums dedicated to the car as well. Felt mor esure footed and planted round corners than the XS and I believe this was due to the wider track of the front of the car, add 1.9 alloys for even wider track and to fill the arches. Still fairly nippy today but don't buy it just to race everyone, although saying that when you get in one, they're quite difficult NOT to drive fast. Engine started dying at about 155,000 miles but this may be my fault for neglect, i was in my teens when i owned this car and not very responsible in looking after it to be fair. But it did last the battl;e well and got some abuse with it. had a few problems, constant HT lead replacement more often than should've been, unsteady idle (common) and general misfiring, hesitation.
Mi16:
I bought my pug already Mi16 converted and still have it today, only problem is its off the road getting throttle bodies put on it so can't drive it. These cars are getting more rare nowadays (good ones anyway) and the review for this car is the same as above except for the engine difference, which is what peugeot should've done from the start IMO. It makes the car feel alive with the 160bhp that comes from the Mi giving it a new lease of life after about 4k revs. engine is alloy so doesn't affect weight too much at the front of the car. Has the guts to challenge most hot hatches nowadays and will compete easily wiuth the likes of an Audi S3 in this form because of Power/Weight ratio and the ability of the chassis to handle the engine well.
If you're interested in a sporty hatch but are young, get an XS but if your a bit older then get the Mi, they're a few on ebay and pistonheads sometimes
Summary: As long as you take care of it, you;ll be fine.
