I have owned my 1987 Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI for over three years now, and in that time it has proved reliable enough to use on a daily basis, as well as being a fun car also. Peugeot claim 0.60 in 7.5 seconds, with a top speed of 128 mph, and these figures are easily believable !!

The biggest problem I have had with the car was the withdrawal of leaded petrol. The 1.9 litre GTI runs poorly on LRP - with a noticeable drop in performance. Unlike the 1.6 GTI the 1.9 cannot easily be converted to run on unleaded. I tried a variety of fuel additives, but these were a nuisance to put in, and I found they made the car run 'lumpy'. In the end I found the best thing is to run the car on super unleaded, which costs more than ordinary unleaded, but the car loves it, and occasionally fill the tank with leaded 4-star to prevent value-seat wear. Overall I would say the 205 1.9 GTI is a performance bargain, you would need to spend a lot more money to get anything even slightly faster!
