Advantages: Economy, handling, pininfarina styling

Disadvantages: odd reliability glitch, no rev counter

These are great little cars, I bought my 1.1 gl for £650 (1992 model) last year and I'm very happy with it. I've only had a few minor problems - radiator cooling switch failed, aerial on the roof leaked water (fixed with some epoxy), the courtesy light switches on the doors failed but I'm told that is pretty common, and a trip to the scrappy soon fixed that. Dont bother buying halfords touch up paint if you have a white pug - they dont seem to match very well.

Despite the small engine size the car goes well and is very nippy. The lack of power steering might be a small problem when parking but the feedback you get around some twisty bits of road more than makes up for that. Feels like a go kart! hehe. The economy is good, with a well tuned engine and careful motorway driving about 55mpg is possible.

Overall, I would probably buy one again - maybe a turbodiesel or gti. They are good cars for their age and I'd especially recommend them as a first car.
