Advantages: Economy, Style
Disadvantages: amount sold!
I have a 206 D Turbo and have had it for around 4 months now. I think the overall style for the 206 is excellent, pininfarina have done a class job on a small car when you compare it to other manufactures attempts and its still going strong 6 years after introduction! The 2.0 litre dturbo is a very quick and economical car, with more torque than the GTi 180!! it certainly pulls well up hills which gives it the feel of a much more powerful car. Acceleration also feels quicker than Peugeot state in the brochure, however a superchip will have it hot on the Gti's tail, giving it nearly 200lbs of torque! (and 110bhp) One thing that is worth adding to any Peugeot 206 is the sports pack. It compliments the cars styling superbly and really makes it stand out - especially as there are so many 206's around! Another thing worth considering if you have an older 206 is colour coding the black inserts on the bumpers and side trim. This makes a world of difference to the look ? as Peugeot has recently realised as they now do it on the latest models! Fuel economy is good, even when driven hard the car returns around 47/48mpg and is capable of much lower consumption if driven sensibly and on motorways etc. While on the motorway the car is also very capable as the turbo range seems to be strongest between 2100RPM and 2700 making overtaking above 70 easy. (the turbo also has a loud whistle to it between these ranges - surprisingly loud! I think it must be located at the back of the engine just in front of the dash!) The engine its self is very smooth and you wouldn't know you where in a diesel once on the move ? Even on tick-over the engine is actually quieter than some petrol?s and has a very solid sound to it rather than the loose rattle / mechanical sounding diesels of the past! The 206 does have it?s problems and niggles, but you can expect these from any new car, In truth it will be only the complaints that will make it onto the
forums and surveys like this one so don?t let them put you off buying one! Remember there?s over 3,000,000? of them been produced since ?98! Overall I think the D Turbo is a very capable, economical car that would surprise and maybe even covert many petrol head's!
