Advantages: Fun Fun Fun
Disadvantages: None.
I own a '99 model 206 GTi. I waited 5 months for this car and was the wait worth it? Absolutely. I have never driven a car that has such composure and power for such a small price. At low speeds it can be a bit rough over the bumps, with it's lotus tuned suspension, but add some speed or a few extra passengers and you have a very confortable ride. At speed with/without passengers, handling is exceptional. Hit bumps mid-corner and you get very precise feed-back from the steering wheel. You know exactly what the car will do. Steering is very precise, all you have to do is point it in the right direction, and it will take you there, with no over steer, but just a hint of understeer. Overall, I think this car is fantastic. I've had it a year, and I am not tired of driving it yet. It's driveability is fantastic, it's very fast, it looks good, and handles like a race car. Don't listen to the critics who say that the 206 GTi is no 205 GTi. All I say is, I'm greatful it's not, because the 205 Gti is just dangerous, seat-of-your pants dangerous. As they say, it's the drive of your life. Update ****** Although I love this car, there are a few niggles that bug me. Rattles. Every now and then I get terrible rattles in the car, and I spend hours at the weekend trying to fix them. I have a space-saver spare wheel, that is too small for the undercarriage holder. So the spare-wheel holder rattles like crazy. Although I have since fixed this by added a load of washers to the holding hook. The standard tyres on the car are Pirelli P6000s. These are a soft compound tyre that wear away very quickly. I recommend getting harder tyres, like Bridgestone SO2's. The hard suspension is getting to me. The roads in my area are in construction, so driving over the bumps is a pain. But, seeing as I feel that way right now, all those thoughts go out the window whe
n I get a good road with nice bends. I love driving it, no matter how it rattles. Just turn up the radio and drive on. You will love it too.

- 06/11/01 I thought about getting a peugeot GTI, but opted for the generally better reviewed/thought of (ie. by EVO etc) Clio Renaultsport 2.0 16v 172. 172 bhp and 0-60 in 6.8 secs ! Read my op on it, it just got a crown as well ! |
