Advantages: RETAIN VALUE, RELIABLE, GOOD LOOKING, HIGHLY CUSTOMISABLE FOR THOSE LOOKING TO 'DO-UP' THEIR CAR

Disadvantages: LOW MPG, SMALL ENGINE NOT SUITED FOR EVERY DAY DRIVING

After passing my test, I decided I need a car that would not only be cheap to insurance and buy, but would also be reliable and last for ages. Although the 206 I bought was relatively expensive, I would argue that it was one of the best cars that any first-time driver could have. It is small, so it is easy to drive around, and when reversing it is therefore easier - when you have just passed your test, you want a car that is not too big and bulky, and one that will make your driving experience easier. Sure, it is not exactly fast and acceleration is slow, but for a 1.1, it is not exactly a surprise. This car exceeded my expectations, and it was actually easier to drive than my instructors car. However, I would argue that the car can be thirsty for petrol, and although it does not have a large engine, I would argue with the fact that the MPG is often around 30-35. Obviously, this is not necessarily bad, and it may be the cause of my inexperienced driving that have caused the lower than expected MPG figures, but the petrol does not last as long as you would want it to. And, in the time of the recession and rising petrol prices, perhaps this is not what you want from your car. The great thing about these cars is that they can retain their value - I bought the car in mid 2007 and had it revalued yesterday, and there has only been a decrease of £500 in price. Not bad for two years, especially when the car is not exactly a 'collectable', so to speak. Without a doubt this car is perfect for those who go up to Tesco's once a week to do their shopping (the boot is surprising spacious), go around town to see friends, and is perfect for those who have just passed their driving test. But, I would argue that for those that drive every day, they do need to consider a bigger car, or a car with a bigger engine.

Summary: GREAT CAR FOR THOSE THAT HAVE JUST PASSED OR THOSE THAT DRIVE ONCE OR THRICE A WEEK
