The 206 is a good looking little car which is why its popular on Uk's roads. The rounded shape and smooth edges is one of its main features. The biggest thing that lets the 206 down is its interior build quality. The Metal effect on the gearlever on sportier models tend to spilt and give you a nasty cut on your hand!.Overall the 206 is not a bad car but there is pleanty other good looking small cars to choose from.I have split the op up into sections(as i usally do!) to make it easier to read.
*** 3 star 3/5
The 1400 cc 206 arrives at 60 mph from a standstill in 12.5 seconds which is not overally immpressive for a 1400cc engine in a car of this size.Once it gets going it will struggle on motorways but will achive a 103mph top speed. As the 206 1.4 GLX does not include ABS brakes it will come to a holt from 70mph in 57.6 metres.
The 1.4 206 has suprisingly qite high running costs compared to main rivals, Do not be prepeared to pay over £670 for a service(Max service cost figure by What car magazene).Expect a typical insurance quote for the 1400 206 to be around£366 as it is a group 4 insurance band. After 3yr's/36,000 miles the Peugeot 206 GLX 5Dr will have only %44 retained value from its on the road price.
The 1400 206 has good mpg results for a 1400 with a official combined mpg figure of 42.8mpg.In extra urban surroundings the 1.4 will have an mpg figure of around 53.5 mpg.
The 206 GLX is fairly priced as it is the GLX model , which is the same luxury level as Rovers Sli models. The 5Dr 206 GLX will set you back £10,890 but you may be able to get a little reduction if asked for if a reduction occurs have a target price of £10,450,Including in the 10k on the road price you will recieve the following guarentees/warranty's
.3yr/36,000 mile manufacters warranty
.12Yr anti rust guarentee.
You should expect a high level of equiptment come as standard on the GKX model as its the most luxurious out of the 206 common petrol models eg Stlyle and LX.The following equipment comes as standard on the GLX
.Air conditioning .
.Central remote locking
.Electric front windows
.Electric heated mirrors
.RDS radio cassette player
.Cd multi player
.Auto gear box £900
.Metllic paint £250
.Alloy wheels £399
.Electric sunroof £500
.ABS brakes £295 11,443
.Electric rear windows £650
.Sattelite navagation £915
.Leather seats £650
So far the 206 reliablity record remains fairly unknown as it has not been launched all that long. The pre 1993 Peugeots have had a positive reliability record.
On the road the 206 drives fairly well but not as good as Puegeot makes out to be with there phrase''The drive of yu life''.There is better cars to drive on the small cars market eg Ford Fiesta Zetec which i would recommend instead of the 206.Road noise is at a pleasing level which is often the case in new cars.
On The Road
The Peugeot 206 handles well and sticks to the road like glue around sharp corners at speed. The 206 is quiet in the petrol version and is a very settled and sencible drive. At speed approaching 100mph the 206 begins to scream and becomes un comftable
The security record for the 206 is extreemly un immpressive,It is known that the 206 is alongside much cheaper security rivals eg Hyundai Atoz.
The 206 Gti which has the smae amount of security equiptment as the GLX scored 45 points in total. The 206 took a speedy 2.5 seconds for the What Car security team to enter
the 206 but could not be driven thnks to Puegeot's Immobilizer which is standards on all models.
I would not recommend the 206 to anyone,I would have a look at the Fiestas range if seriously looking to buy a 206,Unless looking for a diesel supermini then i would give the HDI or Turbo Diesel a thought. The 206 GTI proves to be a fun drive but i would rather go for the Seat Ibiza Cupra.
