Okay, the word diesel is enough to put anyone under the age of forty right off. Right? Wrong!

At the age of 28 I bought a 2.0ltr hdi 206. Now the 206 is a funky sporty little thing, why would anyone want a diesel version? Well, I tried the 1.6i petrol, it was okay, revved up nicely, and the boys looked twice. Then I tried teh diesel. You see, girl racer I may dream of being, but petrol in the uk is sky high (Try Germany - half price!!)

So I took the diesel for a whizz down the M4. The 206 is not a big heavy car, the Hdi engine drives like an equivalent petrol.

SO boy racers, how about a 2.0ltr powerhouse under your bonnet, as the rivals Renault say. 'It goes'.

I love my little diesel, it is quiet, quieter in fact than a petrol Focus, it drives like a much bigger car, especially when you don't have two adults in the back, it loves German motorways, where it sits happily at about 120mph without a whimper and should you be daft enough to decide to move home, it will happily take a tonne behind in a trailer.

Seriously, I am no girl racer. It is a super car and one I would highly recommend to anyone who loves to drive, who prefers larger cars (as a youngster I drove Daddy's cars - Granada's XM estates, Landcruisers- so the micra was NOT for me. It is incredibly efficient doing between 55 - 65 mpg and what may surprise you the most, it is a much cleaner engine than it's petrol cousin the 1.6ltr, with far less toxic emissions. In fact, I believe it is one of the best in its class.

The downside, being a largish engine and a diesel, the government class it in the top tax rate! About time they read the stats I say. better a new 2.0ltr diesel than a ten year old 1.2 petrol! Yeuch!

No need to apologise James, that's what the rating system is for? What would you have liked to find out? I can always do a re-write if I have the information, or direct you to a website if I don't!

Is there not a category for this car rather than cars in general, you could suggest it if there wasn't one, sorry for just the useful rating but I felt it lacked a little detail there :¬) James
