I bought my 5 door peugeot 206 car in 2010 as a 53 plate with only 50,000 mileage. It is my first car as I had only passed my driving test the week before and it is perfect for a new driver! It purrs like a kitten, and even after 16 months the mileage has not failed me yet and I am forever driving up and down taking my daughter to and from nursery and often myself to and from work...
There are only 2 faults with this car and they are as follows:
firstly I find my exhaust constantly makes a rattling sound, most distinctly in cold weather when the car hasn't warmed up yet. I have taken it to a few garages to get to the bottom of this and been told that a nut is loose, but within 2 months again I have to take it to the garage as it seems to frequently become loose again. I will at some point take it to a peugeot show room for them to have another look at it to see if the problem can be solved.
secondly my car is quite easy to break into. I have been the target of breaking and entering into my car and it is just unfortunate that the doors are easy to bend and get into without breaking windows etc to have access inside, so I would advise any buyers looking to purchase this car to invest in a good car alarm to at least deter thieves from entering. In addition, do not leave any valuables in the car overnight or do so at your own peril! I was fortunate enough to have not left anything in my car as my friend who also has the same model as mine (but a 3 door) has had her car broken into 3 times in this year by the exact same way. So word to the wise when buying!
This little car has got to be the best car i have owned. I have had quite a few in my 7 years of driving but this car was just awesome. It looks good, it feels good, it does well on mileage to the gallon and i travelled the country in it. In a 206 there is a little gadget which operates the indicators called a comms 2000, this is a weak spot in the 206 and many cars went out with a faulty one. Mine was one of them, but under the warranty there was no problem, just keep a look out for indicators suddenly indicating the opposite way once you have turned a corner. The car stuck to the road like glue and was a lovely smooth ride, comfortable seats and a glossy black dash. The only physical downside to a 206 is the size of the boot. Other that that the only word to describe this beautiful piece of machinery is Perfect!
i cannot fault a 206. i have a 06 reg verve, before i had the lx which was slightly better with interior things, however this car is great to drive and very economical. it will go for miles!
I love this car. I bought it around 2 months ago. Its a 1999 V reg 5 door in black with 6 change cd player, electric windows, hugeeeee sunroof and leather seats with suede. It cost me £2800 which I thought was quite a baragin considering it was in beautiful condition and had the Lexus lights put in rather than the peugeot ones so makes it look bit more sporty. It also only had 60000 miles on the clock.
The car itself drives really well and is extremely smooth on the pedals but quite sensitive and the steering is very smooth and sensitive too but I think this is probably because before i drove a peugeot 205 without power steering, so bit of a difference, lol.
It drives remarkable well on motorways and feels like you are in more of a salon style car as you feel quite spacious in it and very safe because of the twin airbags. You can turn the passenger airbag off which is good, as when you have a baby in the front its more dangerous to have the airbag open than to not (but hopefully that wont happen). The feel of it on the road is good and it clings nicely to the road around corners. I have the 1.4 litre engine which is just right for me, as its nippy in town driving and does comfortable motorway speeds without bits flying off and the wheel shaking (like my old car) I would recommend this to anyone who wants a small, sporty car which drives well and looks really stylish. Take it for a test drive!
We've just bought a new Y reg 1.4lx and although I haven't driven it much yet ( the missus needs it for work apparently ) I'm very impressed, it takes a lot for me to like cars. My car which I'm still trying to sell is brilliant. I've got my double bass speakers, amp and very expensive cd player. I used to drive out in it purely for a cruise. But now we've got our new car it is absolutely a fantastic car, it's got loads of features which are important. They may be petty to other people, but to me they all go towards the final sale. Central remote locking, electric windows, 2 airbags, airconditioning, cd player (which surprisingly for a basic one is very good )and a real sporty look. We can't drive it too fast yet because we have to drive it under 60mph for a short while. It's the first new car I've ever bought and I would definitely stick with Peugeot for quite some time yet, unless something mad happens like the roof caves in. We're looking forward to the summer ( if it comes ) so we can go out and enjoy a thoroughly smooth, relaxed nice drive. The colour is very good, we went for a metallica green which does look nice. We were also fortunate in the saleswoman who we bought it from was very knowledgeable and answered every question. Not pushy at all and overall very impressed. If you're looking to buy a new car and want a reliable, sporty, smooth car I definitely recomend the 206 1.4lx.
We have recently purchased a W reg Peugeot 206 1.4 LX, it has a very sporty look and is very up-to-date. We purchased it for around £9000, we were going to buy a Renault Clio instead but opted for the Peugeot. Although at first i wasnt very keen on the grill at one side of the bonnet but i am used to it now and quite like it! I would recommend car buyers to llok at the 206 before making a final decision on another car! The insurance can be quite cheap also!, i am insured with CIS and it is only about £150 extra on top of rest of families. Get the 206!!
I own a clapped out 206 (and it's red which makes things even worse!) It squeaks and when I drive it and is a terrible drive. The ineterior decor makes me feel sick when I look at it and it seems very uncomfortable compared to other cars. I Hate it! What I will say though in it's defence is that is really is the most reliable car in the world. I am not one of these people who get there car serviced every six thousand miles and constantly clean and top up with oil every weekend. These people are proud drivers who spend at least and hour washing and then another waxing and one more blow drying with a hardryer. No, I am one of these people whose only contact with their car is when I get in it and drive it. I rarely get it serviced and never wash it (thats what rain is for isn't it?) If my car was an animal somebody would have rung up the RSPCA Line a long time ago and I would be doing a ten stretch for cruelty. So tell me this, How come when I took it to be M.O.T.'d the other day the only thing wrong with it was a faulty wiper blade. I was amazed. I had already saved a bit towards the cost as I knew it was going to be big and I was just handing my life savings over when the mechanic told me what the damage was. I nearly fell off my chair. It was great I actually had some money in my pocket for a change, a car that was legal and a big smile on my face. I even went home and washed it. Well done 206.
I am the proud owner of a 206 but as with all cars there are advantages and disadvantages. The car itself is a sporty little number and is very nippy. I have the 1.4 lx, which is very smooth and handles well. The trim is standard and as other opinions go it can be quite cramped but with it being a sporty model one might expect this. The only qualm I really have with my 206 is the windscreen wipers which haven't been converted from the design of a left hand drive car and can be quite frustrating when its raining. Its good on fuel and the transmission is excellent. I am awaiting the time when I can get the body kit and alloys for the car. Once I have this it should added to the cars sporty look. The one great advantage of this car is that all girls love it. So if your looking for a car that's quite cheap, looks sporty and entices the women then look no further!!
When buying a new car, safety is not always up there at the top of the list. My new 206 was fantastic - until an out-of-control van hit it head on. Crumple zones crumpled, air bag inlated, pyrotechnic seat-belt pre-tensioners went off. I was mostly unscathed - the car finished - but it did its job in protecting me. I did not hesitate in buying a new one (better one - with the CD changer). My biggest quibble with the car is the bizarre back-to-front windscreen wiper configuration which tends to flick water, snow into you rline of sight. A mild niggle though.
