Advantages: Great looks, great reliability, amazing space for a small car

Disadvantages: Temperamental indicators, not ridiculously fuel-efficient

We brought our 1.4 Peugeot 206 S a couple of years ago after our 106 was written off by an errant taxi driver. My partner had wanted one when she brought her 106, but couldn't afford it, well, better late than never eh?

I had read mixed reviews about the 206 and how it has a terrible driving position etc. But to be honest, considering we picked ours up from a main dealer for a shade over £4500 on a 53 plate with 27000 miles on the clock, in immaculate condition, we have no serious complains. Granted the interior get a bit boring after a while, and doesn't feel as well put together as more modern Fords and VW, it's not too bad on the eye. Ride is comfortable considering how old the model is now and the cabin is pretty quiet. Looks wise, although it may look a bit dated now, you have to admit that when it was released, the 206 was pretty smart and still looks a great little car, especially compared to some of the soulless boxes that are on the roads today.

Fuel economy isn't fantastic, but neither does it guzzle fuel. Like another reviewer has said, a full tank costs about £40 and you can easily wring about 350 miles out of a tank.

Boot space in the four door version is great and we've got an armchair or two bikes in there with the seats down. Five people can fit in there with no problems (although not with the bikes in there as well!). In the front there's plenty of space to sit back and relax, and the driving position even for a six footer like me isn't too bad - although it can get a bit tiring after a few hours.

There are a few niggles, the indicator seems to play up a bit (and did on the 106 - probably a Peugeot thing) and the whole car doesn't feel that well put together. Maybe it's just me, but I'm kind of waiting for something to go wrong. That said, we take it all over the country and it's never given us any problems.

All in all, a great little car for pottering around town, which won't let you down when you need to go further a field. Granted there are better small cars out there now, but not all have the style and the general all-rounded ness at this price make it a favourite of mine.

Summary: A great small car for those not wanting to shell out for more expensive modern cars
