If you're reading this you're no doubt considering the pros and cons of buying this car. I'm sure you'll have heard some of the horror stories so I'll do my best to give you an honest unbiased opinion rather than just repeating what you can read in the brochures.
I bought my 206CC SE (that's the 2 litre one) nine months ago. As soon as I took the garage's demo model for a test drive I knew I had to have one. It handles like a dream, good with the roof up, even better with it down. The engine's powerful enough to get you out of any tricky situations and the roof mechanism in operation is enough to make people stop and stare. I was nearly put off when I got a quote for the insurance but I guess you have to pay for something this beautiful! The car does have back seats but are really only accessible if you have short enough legs to give some leg room in the back, and they're certainly not suitable for long journeys. I decided I'd never use mine and so bought a windstop which fits across the back seats. It makes the car look more like a two seater and cuts down on turbulence in the cabin. It also means no-one can see all your shopping on the back seats!
There have been a number of problems reported with the car, ranging from roofs sticking or leaking oil to leaks but with a whole range of problems in between. I won't deny these problems do occur but not with all cars by any means. If you're concerned I'd suggest you shop around first and find a good dealer so you'll get good warranty service if problems do occur. My car leaked for a few months, I was tearing my hair out and the dealership had their hands tied. Because the car was so new, Peugeot couldn't recommend any cures. Anyway, a couple of months down the line, a cure came through, they had my car in for a few days and now its dry as a bone. Even when it was leaking, on sunny days when I put the roof down (even when its 4 degrees outside
its toasty with the heating on!) I still didn't regret buying it.
All in all, its a fabulous car. There is nothing else in the same bracket with a retractable roof and nothing else that attracts so much attention. If you want some fun in your life, buy this car, it really will be the ride of your life.
