Advantages: Handling and value for money

Disadvantages: Interiors can wear badly, look out for the high milers!

I've owned my 2001 (Y Plate) Peugeot 306 Meridian for pretty much a year to the day now...so here are my experiences over the last 12 months.

Engine - The 1.8 engine is great. I've driven some very powerful cars in my time, and thought I would be disappointed with the power of this car, far from it! It'll sit at 70mph on the motorway with no effort, but is just as happy to potter around town. Good fuel economy and easy to maintain, the engine on this car is very good.

Build Quality - Okay, it isn't a VW Golf or BMW. But you need to remember that this car is probably half the price of the equivalent in the above cars. You do get the odd rattle but its part of owning a French car I'm afraid and really shouldn't put you off. All the panels are well fastened to the car and well put together.

Features - Being the meridian spec, this car has air conditioning, coloured coded bumpers and half leather interior along with the normal electric windows, mirrors etc.

Driving - The combination of power from the 1.8 engine and good suspension set up makes this car a pleasure to drive. The "cockpit" is comfortable with everything in easy reach and the handling is excellent.

Running costs -

Good mileage to the gallon
Insurance Group 6

One thing to note I've just had to replace the backbox due to a broken bracket. The cost? £190. Bit of a shock I must admit but its done and very good quality so I'm sure it'll last a while.

Summary - An excellent, cheap car for those wanting something with a bit of power but not sacrificing on looks.

Summary: Good value for money with good performance and handling
