Best car I've owned (Porsche 944)
Member Name: j j
Advantages: performance, looks, ability Disadvantages: high servicing costs & parts
One of the BEST cars I've owned. I've had Rover 220 Coupe Turbo, TVR Chimaera, Audi A4 V6, Mazda MR2, none of them can match the overall feeling of the 944 S2. Mine was a 92 J reg, one of the last one's to be built (with the revised 968 style rear spoiler). It is starting to get left behind by todays standards, Fiat 20V Turbo, Scubby Turbo, Mits Evo, M3 & M5, Audi TT - are all quicker than the old '44. But none of them (except the TT) provides you with the same pleasure. I owned mine for alomst 2 years (almost 20k) and it still felt loverly after this time. The handling is first rate, it needs some more grip (when being pushed hard) but it never feels - unstable or loose. Service histroy is a must on these cars - as there are lots of them to choose from - and a lot of old dogs. I looked for 6 months to find mine - and it was worth the wait. Servicing is expensive - expect £400 for brake pads - if the slider plates need doing also (which they normally do). £450 for a service and £650 for a major 48k (cambelt service) Summary: |
