Advantages: Cheap to service
Disadvantages: Not big as the 2007 Camry
I own a 2005 Proton V6 Perdana and must say it is the most reliable car I have to date. Before this, I had a Citroen, Ford Lynx and a Nissan AD.
I read so many negative reviews about Proton Perdana but it seems that many of these reviews are not from owners but from people who prefer to badmouth out of boredom and make fun of the Malaysian government national cars for whatever reason.
Personally, I think the 2007 Waja drives around the bendy roads slightly better than the Perdana as my wife just bought a Waja herself. But the Perdana is much better for cruising and overtaking and comfortable for the long distance trips.
In a website, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proton_Perdana, there appear to be many distortions and untruths about Proton cars. Example- the official Perdana new facelift models came out in 2003 and not in 2004 as the unknown author had written. Autogear box problems is not a common problem in the newer models.
While I have heard of early released models suffering some new car syndrome problems (Toyota and other major brands also have similar problems but somehow elude the Malaysian media a lot of the times), I can say that the V6 Proton Perdana is the best value car in it's class in Malaysia today.
No other car in it's class today, can you find spare parts much cheaper than the Perdana V6.
