Advantages: different looking
Disadvantages: renault in general, poor reliability
at first this car was great, i bought it when it was just under a year old (its an '04 plate), and had no problems with it. i thought it was stylish (i like its derriere but i think its a marmite thing that you either hate it or love it). i also liked the card key and the 'aeroplane' like handbrake (i know it probably has a technical name but i dont know it so this is my best way of describing it).
my car was a 1.6 diesel. a little noisy but easy enough on the diesel. i only really used it in and around london so never picked up much speed so not sure about those capabilities.
think mine was also the basic model as it was plain cloth interior, no ashtray or cup holders and only a cassette player which was disappointing although you could control it from the steering wheel which was a definite plus.
i'd say it was about a year in that i started having problems with it, and boy were they problems. it started with the usual little problems at first, but then they piled on and it seemed to constantly be in at the renault garage getting serviced (note to renault: please improve your customer service as it leaves a lot to be desired). it all came to a head when i was driving along a country road one day and the cam belt snapped, the engine rattled very noisily and i had to pull over and be towed home. i took it to a garage who told me that bits of the belt had got into the engine and that in all reality it would be very expensive to get the car repaired (more than it was worth) and that i could risk driving it around but that it could cut out completely at any stage in the middle of a road and it was likely to be un roadworthy. i took it to a renault garage (it is 60 miles from where i live) and asked them to look at it and give their opinion. two days later i phoned them after hearing nothing and was told i owed them £500 for parts and labour. i told them that i did not ask for any work to be done to the car, i just wanted them to look at it and we argued about how much they were charging me (especially as they admitted that the car was practically a non runner and yet they still decided to change parts on it and charge a ridiculous amount). in the end i told them they could keep the car and i would see them in court, at which they promptly said i could now pay £100 instead. i got the car back, then traded it in at kia (i told them about the problems with the car and they were fine and gave me a very good trade in).
Summary: get a different car
