Advantages: Great package
Disadvantages: Doesnt like very cold nights
You've seen the Renault adds...well basically its all true. Incredibly versatile but still fun to drive and terrific value for money package. The 1.6 engine is powerful enough and the Scenic sticks to the road like a leech with very little roll unless you are absolutely mad. Fuel consumption on this engine is excellent at around 33 mpg in mixed driving rising to mid 40s on long distance motorway cruises fully loaded. Controls are well laid out with the ICE being especially easy to use and adjust. The only ergonomic problem is that some minor switches are obscured behind the wheel if you are 6 ft tall. Very comfortable and easily adjusted individual seats for everyone and a reasonable size boot even with 4 adult passangers on board. We regularly use ours for a 3000 mile return trip to Southern Europe and its superb. Fast, comfortable and generally reliable. Reliability so far has been good...except for the battery. Earlier models house a new type of gel battery under the driver's seat. Ours has given up the ghost 3 times...all when left out overnight in sub-zero temperatures. Renault deny a problem but I hear that new Scenics now house the battery in the engine compartment.
